It was the morning of August 11, 2013 Anno Domini. A small group of souls gathered at Pinnacles Staging Area for a day of wandering about. After roll call they proceeded to fool around with their radios and spent the better half of thirty minutes attempting to find channel 7.1. Finally they began their journey east on Willow Creek Trail.

The trail carries a "Moderate" rating and allowed the group to have a nice leisurely ride. There were just enough rocks and bumps to keep the drivers from falling asleep, but it was just mild enough that no one got stuck or needed spotting. The crossing at Willow Creek proved to be a real surprise. It was much dustier than the group had expected. After zig-zagging about and kicking up a lot of dust they arrived at Devils Hole. Now Devils Hole is not quite what you might imagine it to be. It is a very nice lunch spot near Deep Creek. The shade was relaxing and the rocks were reasonably comfortable.

When lunch was finished the group left Devils Hole and headed upstream. After a few miles of driving the stopped at the Deep Creek crossing on the Dishpan Springs Trail. The water was very low but the group could not resist the temptation to soak their feet. The splashing about quickly came to an end when the guy with the Polaris side by side cranked up his stereo and proclaimed the everyone that he had a poor taste in music.
Returning to the dusty trail the group wandered back to Lake Arrowhead, where they aired up their tires and said their goodbyes. Much fun was had by all. One of the participants, Keanan Fleck, even had this to say "Yeah that was real fun man. Thanks Garrett."

And there you have it. Now here are some pictures:

Thanks Garrett, I had a great time! The weather couldn't have been better, the trail was very scenic, the water refreshing and Keenan's kids totally adorable. Small groups are nice every now and then, things move along without any drama and the incessant crackle of those overly complicated FRS radios , and it must be nice for the trail leader to peek into the rear view mirror and see exactly where the convoy begins... and ends. Well done, thanks for the nice photos and I hope to see you all at Rover Rendezvous.

Umberto, you should bring your girls on the Aspen Grove trip in the fall. I'll be leading it sometime mid October. You have plenty of time to start convincing the wife to let you bring the kids. It'll be a real mellow scenic drive with a short hike to see the Aspen trees.

Maybe this picture will convince her to come along.

Thanks everyone for a great trip. I know Brian and I enjoyed out time with you guys. Hopefully my airbags will be gone this week and I can bring out the disco to play. After the trip Brian and I continued on to big bear and camped at the very camp ground we are going to be staying at for RR XIII. Below are some photos.

I have that same blue stubby camping chair. I really like it. People make fun of it cause it's so short though.

That was not my pink hat. I was only carrying it for someone else.
