I have ideas rolling around in my head and I need your input. I have been spending too much time on the internet reading and watching videos from various off road contests, it got me all excited about organizing a contest of our own. This is what I am thinking:

A day or weekend long event where teams compete against each other to see who is the absolute best at off roading. Teams will be made up of a driver and a navigator. Teams will compete in a few different challenges, challenges will be timed or judged by the opponents. There will be a small entry fee for each team and that money will go into a prize purse. The winner will use the winnings to replace parts that were damaged during the contest.

Ideas for tasks/challenges include:
Blindfolded Obstacle Course - Driver is blindfolded, navigator directs driver through a course laid out by cones. Fastest time wins.

Reverse Wheeling - Vehicle is driven in reverse over an obstacle, navigator helps direct driver. Teams will be judged by opponents based on communication and time.

Timed Course - Teams will navigate a course. Team closest to a predetermined benchmark time will be the winner.

Is anyone else interested in an event like this? A small contest like this could be a real blast. I just need some help pulling it off. Please contribute your ideas and thoughts on this.

Any ideas for locations?
Any suggestions for other tasks/challenges?

Thanks,

- Keanan

Most excellent idea, just like Camel Trophy or the Nevada Trophy, but it can be called SCLR Trophy. I like it, we can also get some sponsors to provide prizes for the event.

Let's plan it.

I was thinking about locations also. Here is the list of places I came up with:
Johnson Valley
Anza Borrego/Ocotillo Wells
Hungry Valley
Big Bear

Location really depends on the time of year, could we do this in May/June or September/October maybe?

What all is at Oceano? Is it just a bunch of sand dunes or is there a place nearby that we could have a non sand course?

Hungry Valley was one of my first thoughts for location, do we need reservations for there? Could we close the trail during the event so we don't run into dirt bikers? Are there other trails nearby that we could do an event on? A timed hill climb at night would be fun.

Because it is a contest, What kind of insurance/release from liability would be involved?

SCLR Trophy is a good name, I was thinking of the Northwest Challenge and the Opossum in the road when I came up with Opossum Challenge. I'm open to any other name suggestions also.
