We will head up to Thomas Hunting Grounds near Angelus Oaks to go sledding and play in the snow. In dry conditions the road (1N12) is suitable for high clearance 2WD vehicles. What will make things interesting is the road will be covered in snow. The last mile might be untravelled and we will have to break trail. We will stop for lunch & snow play at the hunting grounds. After lunch if there is interest and conditions allow we will push on to Angelus Oaks. Total trail length is about 12 miles.

Trip Leader: Keanan Fleck

Meeting Time: 9:00 AM Sunday February 5. Drivers meeting at 9:15, Depart at 9:30.

Meeting Location: Augies Coffee House 113 N 5th St
Redlands, CA 92373 Park across the street in the parking lot.

Fuel: There is a Shell and 76 station across the street from the meeting location.

Food: Pack a lunch and extra food, it might be a long day. I'm planning on eating breakfast at McDuff's. I'll be there at 8 when they open. You are welcome to join me if you so desire.

Vehicle: Stock Land Rovers with good AT/MT tires should be able to make it. Street tires will need chains, ideally on all four wheels.

Recovery Equipment: Someone will get stuck. Shovels, Straps, Chains and brute force will be necessary.

Communications: HAM radio on club frequency. This will be discussed at the drivers meeting.

Other Supplies: Bring sleds, tubes, and any other devices for playing in the snow. We will try to find a good lunch spot to play and go sledding.

Not sure if I can make it yet. The conditions have really changed up there. The snow is more of a slushy consistency during the warmer parts of the day and iced over in the morning and in to the evening. It also looks like the weather is calling for more rain up there. If you have chains I would recommend bringing them and using them. I ran some trail last weekend and it gave me a run for my money.

When I went up the trail last weekend the untracked stuff was really granular. If you're breaking trail you will need a good set of chains. The second or third vehicle should be OK with decent AT or MT tires. Anything with street tires will need to chain up.
