As reported on the news today, JTNP is "closing" on Thursday, courtesy of the government shutdown. Not sure how the temporary park closure will affect this trip (unless the government miraculously figures it out quickly and the park reopens after a good scrubbing within the next 10 days, probably unlikely), but I assume that at some point along Berdoo Canyon you may get to a locked gate?

From the Desert Sun Newspaper:

"Park officials...said they hope to restore visitor access to the park as quickly as possible..."

I'm not sure what this means either, but I do not plan to enter a Park if it is "Closed".

Please 'stay tuned',

Bill

It's not completely closed.

Per NPS:
"Visitor Services
- Park roads, lookouts, trails, and open-air memorials will generally remain accessible to
visitors, but there will be no NPS-provided visitor services, including restrooms, trash
collection, facilities and roads maintenance (including plowing), and public information."

Due to Park Service quotas, I am cutting off active registrations for this trip (Effective 1-08-19 at 6:15 p.m.).

Anyone expressing interest after this point will be put on a 'Standby List'.

If Joshua Tree National Park remains closed through next week I will need to reschedule the entire trip. Those who have already RSVP'd will be given priority.
