When: Saturday May 15-16, 2021-Trona/Randsburg area

Trail: Trona Pinnacles. No real "trails" but a lot of opportunity to explore

Difficulty: Easy with the the emphasis that this is true vehicle-dependent travel so be absolutely certain that your vehicle is up for the trip.

Distance: Many many miles. About 60 miles on alternative dirt roads once we leave our meetup location at Kramer Junction

Camping: Yes. Dispersed, unimproved, no facilities or water. Bring everything you need.

Temperatures: 95 high/60 low. Winds Saturday. Click here for weather.

Trail Leader/Host: Adam Spiker 951-207-2095 [email protected] but with this size group we will be deploying additional trail leaders for smaller groups including the club's Trail Master Jerry Sanfilippo, club VP Ed Testa, and likely a couple of other veterans already registered for the run should the need arise.

Radios: GMRS/FRS 16.0, HAM 147.580

Meeting Location: Kramer Junction, south of the 76 station along side of the east side of road in the Overnight Parking lot. This lot is highlighted in Pink below:

Meeting Time: Saturday at 9:00am. Given the size of this group, a NO-CALL-NO-SHOW POLICY WILL BE ENFORCED! This means that each attendee is understood to have taken my cell phone number and knows to call me if they will be late to the meeting location by more than 15 minutes of the meeting time (9:15am)...NOT the departure time. If I don't receive a call prior to the departure time, the group will leave on time as scheduled. Adam 951-207-2095

Departure Time: 9:30am Sharp. "Meeting" the group at the Pinnacles is not an option for liability reasons. Please plan your morning so you can depart with plenty of time to arrive early.

Background & Narrative

Trona. Have you been? I've stopped but have always wanted to return to camp under the stars. The objective is to get there promptly and without vehicle troubles to enjoy the sunset and camping under the stars. The weather should be perfect for it--fingers crossed for clear skies. This is a live and let live trip; the Trona Pinnacles are considered a special and spiritual place. Let each person experience this destination in the way they wish; in the way you wish.

Trona Pinnacles OHV Route is a 12.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Trona, California that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for off road driving and is accessible year-round. The area is riddled with tracks but this is really overlanding and not "trail running".

ROUTE

We could take pavement almost all the way to the Pinnacles but the primary plan is to take alternative dirt roads there. These roads parallel the asphalt option in many places. Off road on dirt roads for about 60 miles into the Pinnacles. The alternative is to take pavement all the way there and only do the 12 miles into the Pinnacles. The plan is to use the alternative dirt roads.

SUPPLIES

Given this distance and that we'll be vehicle-dependent please carry extra fuel if needed. Fuel is available on the way out. A full size spare is really recommended as always. Bring lots of water, a hat, sunscreen, chair, vehicle fluids and tire repair kit. Bring your creature comforts and an adaptive, good attitude as always. Every vehicle MUST have a working radio--bring at least 16 batteries if you are on FRS or GMRS or a way to recharge all radio types. Bring two bundles worth of firewood per person.

This trip is full, please do not bring extra vehicles. Must Join on the SCLR webpage first.
