This is as much about exploring as it is about anything so a lot less rigid in itinerary. We'll go where we want and to what strikes our eye while following a general track and plan. Time to let the curiosity come out. We'll take as many breaks and stops as we want for exploring and photos.

Joshua Tree National Park: Throughout the park you may find palm tree laden oases, bighorn sheep, lizards, rattlesnakes, birds, coyotes, jackrabbits, burrowing owls, and more wildlife. You'll also see Southern California's iconic desert landscape and it's fascinating geology.  Rock formations and granite monoliths are all around you, attracting rock climbers and hikers alike. Stargazing and camping opportunities abound. The south entrance at Cottonwood Spring, which lies 25 miles east of Indio, can be approached from the east or west, also via Interstate 10.

Entering Joshua Tree National Park requires a pass ($15-week pass available online here), which is to be paid at the park entrance or online. It is unknown whether the Rangers will be onsite to collect fees; plan to pay cash.

Length: 25.8 mi

Elevation Gain: 830 ft

Old Dale Mine Trail: Old Dale Road is a 26.3 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Twentynine Palms, California that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as difficult, mostly due to clearance, traction, and rocky parts. Stock 2WD Jeeps and 4-Runners are common on the trail however. Plenty of stopping to explore Dale Mine, Brooklyn Mine, and several more as convenient. Potential sharp rocks, some articulation, sand, and rough flat roads.

This will be a long day with upwards of 40 miles on the trail, then having to exit the park after that. This is not a training run, more follow the leader and explore where we want.

RSVP by Sun 7th. If there is more interest then a waiting list will be used and the group will be split up. These trips fill up fast. Do not bring unregistered guests, when the trip is full it’s full.

If anyone has a video drone I'd be interested in requesting your help for a shoot of the trip and more specifically of the campgrounds Saturday after the run and on Sunday morning. Email me if you're interested at [email protected]
