Death Valley trip, 3/4/5 March 2017
Meet in car park of Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest at 0830a Friday morning. Please arrive with a full tank of fuel plus an extra can of fuel - we have a long first day with no fuel stops until we reach Furnace Creek.
Route would be:
Fri: Starting in Ridgecrest, through Trona, over the Escape Trail into Panamint Valley, up Goler Wash to the Manson cabin, up and over Mengel Pass to the cabins, then via Butte Valley to overnight at Furnace Creek Ranch.
Meet at 0900a in front of reception at Furnace Creek Ranch. From here, drive to Park HQ next door to buy Park vehicle pass ($25 for 7 days) and fill up fuel tanks.
Head up Echo Canyon to Inyo Mine, then over Echo Pass, down the other side past Lees Camp to overnight in Beatty.
Sun: Head through Titus Canyon, then down to Chloride City and then head back home that afternoon.
All generally easy to moderate, with a couple of challenging sections on Fri and Sat.
Please note: I'm limiting this to 8 vehicles max. These are long days, especially Friday. More than 8 is going to make the going slow and we will not cover the ground we need to.
Also, if your truck has known issues that might cause it stop running, please have these fixed before coming. Towing a broken down truck out of this remote area impacts all the others on the trip. Unforeseen breakdowns are one thing - coming with known issues is another.
Please bring basic tools, recovery gear if you have it, water, sunscreen, good spare tire.
