At Calico Mining District
Posted by Ramon Valencia
Meeting spot: 10AM at the Chevron Gas Station, 35855 Ghost Town Rd, Yermo, CA 92398
Route: drive up Mule Canyon to W Philips Road, stopping by Kramer Arch for fotos, then make our way to the Bismark Mine, then proceed back taking East Philips.
A lost secret of the desert, Kramer Arch is one of the many unknown natural obstacles in the area. This beautiful natural stone structure isn't very large so vehicle size may be an issue. If your vehicle is small enough, you can squeeze through the arch making for some awesome photo opportunities.
The trail is easy with some moderate sections. From sandy washes to small rock obstacles, Phillips Canyon East is a diverse short trail. You will see unique natural rock formations, great views, old silver mines and rock tailings everywhere you look. The conditions on the trail changes as you go from one area to the next. This is also the fastest route to get to the heart of the Calico mining area.
After the trail run, we will find a safe spot for target shooting. Everyone is welcome to stay and shoot with the group.
Comms: We will use both 2 metre HAM and FRS. Frequency and Channel to be discussed at the briefing.
