Any Land Rover should not have a problem. Sidesteps and Air Dams need to be removed. Diff guards are helpful Not necessary . Off road tires are advised as stock/street tire will run the risk of puncture. If you have street tires, make sure you have a good spare and tools.
DIRECTIONS
Take the 10 freeway east past Palm Springs. DO NOT take Hwy 62 to Joshua Tree. Keep heading east about another 51 miles and exit Cottonwood. (There will be signs for Joshua Tree National Park) Turn left at exit and follow the road to the CottonwoodVisitorCenter. Make sure you fuel up your vehicle before exiting (Fuel up near Morongo Casino)
MEETING TIME SATURDAY
We will meet at 9:30am at the CottonwoodVisitorCenter.
Please give yourself ample time from the 10 freeway. The VisitorCenter is approx. a 10 minute drive from the 10 Freeway.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION
As we leave the VisitorCenter, we will continue up the paved road 6 miles to Old Dale Road. Old Dale Road is a flat, easy, sandy trail that crosses the PintoBasin. We continue on Old Dale for approximately 11.5 miles to the turn off for the Brooklyn Mine Trail. This is a mildly challenging trail that runs through the PintoMountains and is about 12 miles taking us the better part of the day. There are many places on the trail with loose, low-traction surfaces, large rocks, and off camber situations. However, the trail is not like this the entire way. From here people who are heading home will head west on Hwy 62 and the people who will camp read ahead.
CAMPING INFORMATION
I will be camping Friday night Cottonwood campsite. For Saturday night depending how many RSVP’s I get. I will reserve a group campsite for upto 12 vehicles. Its $30/ night total for the whole group and cost will be split within everyone.
SUNDAY
I have not chosen a particular trail for Sunday yet. We will come up with something Saturday night. Most likely will take Berdoo canyon through the park and out to hwy 10.
MEALS.
Bring your own meals for Saturday and Sunday. Unless the group decides to have a potluck Saturday night which can be discussed on the Roverboard.
