Pismo 2009 - SCLR
I didn't get an official count of vehicles or people but we had a fairly good size group with about 10-12 trucks in all and maybe double that in people.
We left on Friday at 4pm, caravaning with Adam and Coy. We arrived at Old Juans Cantina at 7:15 and met everyone already there. After dinner we headed back to camp and setup. After a short night run, we had a fire and some drinks and called it a night so we would be rested for the Coastal Cleanup the next morning. Night run was short because I had some trouble getting up a relatively small dune, so after finally getting around it, I stopped to survey the truck. I did find some damage and missed some to later in the trip. One of the bolts came out of my quick disconnect (not one I installed) so it was just flopping around and now missing a bushing..
On Saturday morning, we headed over to the cleanup to sign up and get our shirts and trash bags. After signing up, we all met back at camp and drove south thru the dunes towards competition hoill and adjacent areas to pick up trash. WOW - it was disgusting how much trash was there and how little regard people have for not just the environment in general, but for a place they use. I found myself wishing bad things would happen to the people that left every kind of trash you can imagine.
At any rate, we picked up trash until about 11:30 at which point I was noticing some not good things. I checked my truck again abnd found some damage I had missed previously. BOTH motor mounts broken and one trans mount broken and the other on its way out. We headed in to dump our trash. I reached out to Ginger of Friends of Oceano Dunes for some local contacts for repairs. She hooked me up with Xtreme Unlimited of Oceano. I spoke with Mark and Dennis. After decided it was not worth a custom fix, I asked if he could call XK's - Gold Coast Rovers to see if they had anything. Surprisingly Jim over at GCR had all 4 mounts!!! We placed the call at 12:40 and he was about 20 minutes from us closing at 1pm. So Adam piled us in his truck and we flew over there on 10psi! Made it just in time and Jim even stayed a little after one helping me out. Got my 10% SCLR discount and walked out with the stuff. Headed over to Xtreme and we installed them. I paid a premium for installation but I was happy to do it so I could drive the rest of the weekend in the sand. Took one hour and we headed back to the camp.
I was pretty beat and i think everyone else had been driving around this whole time so they were all at camp too. We all hung out for a few hours until dinner. After dinner, since we never got to have full camp run, we all headed out for a night run, where we did some driving in the back dunes, hill climbs, comp. hill, and some deep bowls behind comp hill. I think everyone had a good time. after a few hours we headed back to camp for our final fire and stayed up pretty late. It was fun talking with everyone!
I woke up in the morning and packed up and took off. All things considered, a typical Pismo trip. Lots of good people and cool trucks, good food and drinks, plenty of carnage - as it turns out, several others broke motor mounts in the sand. I have to admit we were tearing it up pretty good and often had a crowd watching us play.
Thank you everyone for coming out and looking forward to the next trip. I think I am going to have to develop some heavy duty motor mounts though. I am getting tired of replacing the rubber OEM ones. I just got new ones in February, thats horrible!!
I didn't take any pics over the weekend, just too busy running around most of the time, but it was great to see thqat SCLR got the top spot on the Coastal Cleanup shirt and heres a pic of the motor mounts....(will get that pic)
